Remote /Engineering Team Leader
Overview
Remote is looking for an Engineering Team Leader to manage a small product engineering team while actively contributing to product development. This role combines people leadership, backend engineering, team coaching, hiring, onboarding, and technical execution. The ideal candidate has strong backend experience, proven line management skills, and the ability to help engineers grow while delivering secure, reliable, scalable production systems.
Responsibilities
- - Manage a small product team of 3–5 backend and frontend engineers.
- - Spend part of the role on people management while actively contributing to product development.
- - Support hiring processes and onboarding for new engineers.
- - Manage team dynamics and help each engineer perform at their best.
- - Provide continuous, constructive feedback to team members.
- - Support career growth and development for direct reports.
- - Coach the team and provide technical and professional guidance.
- - Contribute to backend product development and engineering execution.
- - Help redesign engineering workflows using autonomous agents and automation.
- - Build reusable agentic workflows and engineering primitives.
- - Use tests, checks, evaluations, and guardrails to ensure secure and reliable delivery.

Requirements
- - Experience managing an engineering team of at least 2 people.
- - Strong backend engineering experience.
- - Experience with Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming.
- - Strong engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems.
- - Ability to build secure, reliable, and scalable systems.
- - Practical experience designing or adopting agentic or automation workflows.
- - Ability to define clear specifications, break down plans, and verify quality.
- - Strong communication and organizational skills.
- - Solid knowledge of engineering principles and development best practices.
